During a working meeting theGeneralConsul of Greece Dimitris Papandreou and the Melitopol Mayor Sergei Valter have discussed the importance of developing bilateral relations between Greece and Ukraine, and Melitopol in particular, in the sphere of economy and business, culture and sister city relationships.
According to Mr. Papandreu, this year in MayMelitopol leaders and entrepreneurs will be officialy invited to a major international exhibition of Greek products, which will be held in Mariupol. In his turn, the Mayor invited the General Consul to visit two landmark events that will take place in Melitopol in June: "AgroFrum" and the Festival of cherries. It is well know that Melitopol region is famous in the world not only for its cherries, but also for its engineering. Each year the city invites its partners to the exhibition of the local producers' spareparts AgroFrum, which takes place in early summer. And this year the Festival of cherries will also be held in June.
The General Consul said that a new Greek airline will start working in Ukraine (the route Mariupol-Athens)since April 2012. He has also explained that Greece is interested in improving relations with Melitopol entrepreneurs engaged in the organization of international tourism.
According to the Mayor, taking into consideration the potential of our region,the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries can be expanded. This idea was supported by Mr Papandreou. He, in turn, suggested the idea of creating of an informal association of Ukrainian cities with Greek names, and opportunity to hold the first meeting of the mayors of these cities in Melitopol.
