Melitopol is a city of youth. 10% of the city population are students. There are 2 state universities (Bohdan Khmelnytsky State Pedagogical University and the Tavria State Agrotechnological University named by Dmytro Motornyi), 4 branches of Ukrainian universities, 7 professional lyceums, 3 colleges in the city. Teachers and students of universities develop professionsl skills at leading institutions in Germany, undergo agricultural practices in Sweden, Swizerland, the Netherlands, Denmark, France and other countries.The City has preserved and developed the full range of learning engineering occupations - vocational schools, community colleges, technical colleges, Universities.Available specialists for engineering, agriculture, economy and Finance, education, medicine, culture, etc. Due to this Melitopol never experiences problems of skills shortages and the ageing workforce. 
Within a radius of 150 - 200 km from the city there is a rich source of raw materials: metal, fruits, vegetables, grains, meat, fish, and honey. These products naturally help to develop key sectors of the economy of the city.Melіtopol is one of scientific and industrial centers of region. Due to the historical heritage, economic and geographical position and entrepreneurial residents in the city there are developed machinery, light and food industries. On the territory of Melitopol there are several large and about 100 small and medium enterprises of mechanical engineering, which are the basis for the production of electronic components for the automotive, road-building and agricultural machinery, where about 20 000 products are done.
The main directions of production are: assemblies, components and parts for the automotive and agricultural machinery; special equipment for industrial use; equipment for the needs of agriculture and the food industry etc. 
Melitopol is the only city in Ukraine where the international highways E58 and E105 intersect. In the summer season, car traffic that passes through the city reaches several thousand cars a day, following the coast of the Azov sea. The total length of the car network of Melitopol is 333 km. The distance from the city of Melitopol to the nearest international airport in Zaporizhzhia is 120 km, the nearest international port in Berdiansk is 120 km. Berdiansk sea trade port, which is the only sea transport hub of Zaporizhzhia district, sea roads, through the Volga-Don and White Sea-Baltic channels, which is connected with the regions of Kazakhstan, Iran, and with the countries of the Mediterranean basin, South-East Asia and America through the Black Sea.
The city has a number of attractive proposals of vacant land for development. There are over 200 investment proposals and projects developed in the city and several projects of industrial parks creation prepeared by Melitopol Development Agency. 9 countries invested in Melitopol: Ukraine, Great Britain, Denmark, the Netherlands, China, Cyprus, Panama, Moldova. Melitopol entered the TOP 10 small European cities of the future 2018/19 in the international ranking of the magazine fDi Intelligence, part of the Financial Times in the category «Foreign direct investment Strategy (subcategory «Cost effectiveness»), took the 6th place.
In 2008, Melitopol became the first Ukrainian city-member of the Council of Europe Program «Intercultural cities». The city is proud of the title «Intercultural Source of Ukraine». Representatives
of about 100 nationalities peacefully coexist here for centuries. In 2016, Melitopol showed the total index of the intercultural city – 69%, resulting in the 18th position among 85. In some positions the city even ahead of the leaders of the rating. In the field of obligations – 97%, which exceeds the rating of the sample city, which is 71% and in the fields of education,culture and social life, the international cooperation is 100%.
Within the framework of the Best Places to Live in Ukraine Project Ukrainian popular analytical publication «Focus» has assessed values of citizens' major expenses: food basket, housing services, purchase of housing in the primary and secondary markets, housing rental, expenses on public transport and taxis, in order to rank the most affordable cities. Melitopol was ranked the 6th among all the cities in Ukraine. This fact is important in terms of investment attractiveness, it is an advantage of the city.
