Representativesof Melitopol are studying the experience of other cities in the elaboration of the development strategy. Information on the development strategies of other regionswas given by the professionals on this issue and it was one of the reasonswhy Melitopol Deputy Mayor Valeriy Govorkov took part in the regional forum "Promotion of best practices".
The forum was held in Kiev within the framework of the Partnership Project Canada-Ukraine Regional Governance and Development. During the seven years of its implementation theRegional Economic Development specialists in Ukraine were prepared, practical experience in the shere of the development and implementation of infrastructure projectsand strategies for communitieswas shared.
Bilateral discussions were the main purpose of the forum that is organized by the Canadian Urban Institute and the Lviv Regional Institute of Public Administration within the frames of the National Curriculum for regional economic development. More than 80 representatives of local authorities, centers of training and retraining of civil servants, NGOs, universities, coaches, as well as international experts from Canada and the UK took part in the forum.
Presentations related to the best practices for regional economic development. Melitopol Deputy Mayor Valeriy Govorkov spoke in detail about the practice of regional economic development on the example of Ukraine's first cluster of engineering "Agrobum". Now it is a successful project that works internationally.
Group work in the following areas: strategic planning, project preparation, alternative financingwas a part of the forum. Each of the groups included Ukrainian and international experts, who also expressed their views on the difficulties in the way of designing a project, elaborating the criteria for success, the usage of the knowledge and skills, etc..
Deputy Mayor Valeriy Govorkov calles the experts of the Regional Development Project management the leaders in the development ofstrategic plans in the country. Today, the project has trained more than 100 PVP trainers on regional economic development in 20 regions of Ukraine, supported 60development strategies of regions, districts, cities, as well as 85 projects of different scale and direction in most regions of Ukraine.
According to Deputy Mayor Valeriy Govorkov the participation in the forum has given an opportunity to learn the experience of creation of long-term strategies for the regional development. "Many cities in Ukraine have passed this way. Citizens have defined the development priorities, were able to emphasize their individuality and move forward along the chosen path. The development of such an instrument is a big and laborious work, but it is necessary for the future of our city"- said Valeriy Govorkhov.
