Guided by Melitopol Development Strategy up to 2020 the city continues to actively participate in different European programs.

On the 6-8th of February 2013 representatives of the cities-members of the "Intercultural cities" program attended a technical meeting  in Dublin, Ireland. Each participant presented his municipality and the projects that are being implemented there. Melitopol has been a member of the project from the beginning (2008) and since 2011 the city became a member of another program "Community Based Results Accountability". Melitopol delegation included the Chief of the  Municipal Marketing Department Julia Lysenko. The meeting was sponsored by the European Union and the Council of Europe.  

Representatives of European cities have been very impressed with the results that Melitopol local authorities have achieved in attraction of citizens to the process of problems identification and decision making. During the elabarotation of the Development Strategy up to 2020 13,000 residents were surveyed and 4 600 residents while working on the cultural map. In addition, the participants were interested in a report on the cultural events aimed at bringing together different ethnic groups. "Spring in the Intercultural City" (that involved all the national-cultural societies of Melitopol), "Shushansky Bazaar" (organized by the Jewish community), "Hydyrlez" (organized by the Crimean Tatars Society), Parade "With Ukraine in heart" and many others were held during 2012.

Deputy Mayor of Botkirka, Sweden, Ian Syostrom proposed to create joint projects with the participation of 21 cities, first participants of the program, including Melitopol. Patras Deputy Mayor for the Integration of Iimmigrants  Marie-Andrikopulu Ruva offered to establish student exchange between universities in Greece and in Melitopol. Chairman of the Gori City Council  Davit Razmadze was extremely interested by Melitopol success in attracting investors and creating new business, he plans to visit the city in order  learn about the experience. Besides that, an agreement to establish sister-city relationship between Melitopol and Izhevsk, Russia, was reached.
