The longest street in the City have got a new name due to the Decommunisation Law of Ukraine. After a lively debate in the community there were few versions of naming. The final version was approved by the Head of Regional State Administration

Melitopol few years (since 2008) was the single official representative of Ukraine in the program of the Council of Europe �Intercultural Cities�, and in 2015 entered the Ukrainian Network of Intercultural Cities (ICC UA).
