Melitopol successfully develops non-Olympic sports and already has serious achievements in horting and sumo. November 17-20, 2016 in Truskavets, the second world championship of horting, which attracted more than 450 athletes from many countries of Europe and Asia, was held. Participants competed in four sections of the competition. In the national team of Ukraine there were two Melitopol athletes: Glidon Kim, acting in weight category 55 kg; his coach, master of sports of the international class, the quadruple champion of Europe in pankration Vladimir Mishchenko, who fought for the title of strongest in weight over 95 kg. In the section "the duel" in their weight categories Melitopol representatives won the gold medals.

In those days in Lviv took place the open Cup of Lviv on sumo wrestling, which was attended by teams from Lviv, Volyn, Kharkiv, Kherson, Donetsk, Vinnytsa, Mykolaiv, Kyiv, Rivne, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, Odessa and Cherkasy regions, as well as from Poland, Egypt and Germany. Among the contenders for the medals there were the strongest sumo wrestlers of Ukraine, prize-winners and Champions of world and Europe. Our city and region was represented by 19-year-old Sergey Sokolovsky - master of sports of international class, the fivefold champion of Europe, three-time winner of the world Championships in sumo. According to Sergei, he spent 15 matches in the absolute weight category and with a perfect result became the winner. Coached athlete Ruslan Kuksov.

Another young Melitopol athlete Vyacheslav Kopot in November, competed in three competitions: the regional championship in wrestling, all-Ukrainian tournament on prizes of TSATU and international master tournament in Kherson, having won two gold medals and a bronze.
