MELITOPOL MAYOR VISITED CANADA

 

In the delegation of Ukrainian Mayors

within the framework of international technical assistance project Partnership for Local Economic Development and Democratic Governance (PLEDDG) Melitopol Mayor visited Canada. PLEDDG project had been implementing since 2015 with the financial support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Canada in collaboration with the Association of Ukrainian Cities. During the visit Ukrainian delegation studied principles of municipal governance in Canada, visited the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Conference and trade exhibition.

The Conference of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities in Ottawa #FCM2017CA gathered about 2000 delegates from Canada and other countries on the eve of celebrating of the 150th anniversary of Canada #Canada150 - the largest meeting of local government leaders in the history of the country. The conference was opened by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. 

During the event, with the active participation of delegates from Ukraine, there were discussed innovations in the municipal sector, how to dispose municipal assets, how to promote the involvement of women and increase their representation in local government.

Within the framework of previous agreements, there is being prepared meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Ukraine to resume Canadian-Ukrainian project to support small farmers, which some years ago has already been working on our territory. Due to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, we can analyse initiatives of different cities and discuss them, to implement new ideas in our territories, learn new experiences, mechanisms and tools that can be adapted for use in Ukraine, including decentralization, noted Melitopol Mayor.
