A meeting with Neal Walker, the United Nations Ambassador
in Ukraine, was held at TSATU. City authorities, representatives of community associations, NGOs, students, representatives of Melitopol district state administration, deputies of district and village councils, representatives of the deputy corps took part in the meeting within the framework of the UNDP / GEF Small Grants Program "Monitoring visit to the steppe landscape". |
The purpose of the meeting was to monitor the existing projects of the Program in Melitopol and discuss further cooperation.
Thanks to the support of the United Nations Development Program in Melitopol, projects on solar dryers, agroecology, popularization of bicycles, including for vulnerable populations, the first bike route to the Stone Grave were developed. The main feature was the ability to move cycling tandems, which is especially important for people with special needs. During the meeting further directions of joint work were identified.
Several projects devoted to organic farming and crop production have already been implemented in Tavria State Agrotechnological University (TSATU). The UNDP / GEF Small Grants Program provides material assistance for the purchase of special equipment for conducting such studies.
The city implements projects on the initiative of internally displaced persons. In September 2016, the New Melitopolites Initiative Group won an UNDP grant for the amount of 138 thousand UAH for the creation of a Family, Children and Youth Center for people who were in a difficult life situation, including IDPs. City authorities provided building in the Melitopol City Park of Culture and Leisure named after Gorkyi on the non-paid basis for the implementation of the project.
